Fall Themed Dog Treat Recipes
Yummy Fall-Themed Pup Treats
If you are one of those people who just can’t wait for fall to enjoy the great taste of pumpkin, you will be happy to know most dogs love pumpkin as well. In addition to having a great taste, it is also a healthy option for a dog’s digestion. I have plenty of fall dog treat recipes that you can try.
To help dog owners to prepare some healthy, homemade all themed dog treats, here are a few favorite recipes. Remember, you can modify or swap out any ingredients you like if your dog has a preference. It is also important to keep in mind that these are treats, and should be provided only in limited quantities.
Cinnamon Bun Biscuits
There is something amazing about the smell and taste of cinnamon, and now your dog can enjoy it too. Crispy on the outside and chewy in the middle, these are a big hit with dogs of all sizes.
- 2 cups flour (whole wheat)
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ cup water
- ¼ cup oil (olive, canola, coconut)
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 2 tbsp raw honey (optional)
Mix dry ingredients (flour and baking powder) together in one bowl and the egg, oil, and water in another. Mix dry and wet ingredients until mixed and roll out to the desired thickness to create a square about 8 by 14 inches.
Drizzle the honey on the surface and sprinkle the cinnamon, then roll up like a jelly-roll. Slice into ½ inch rounds and bake for 15-20 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. This should make 22-24 biscuits.
To make the icing, mix ¼ cup of cream cheese with 2 tablespoons milk and drizzle on the top of each “bun” after they cool. Store the frosted cinnamon bun biscuits in the fridge and use within one week or freeze.
Apple Cheddar Treats
Fall is the season when apples are harvested, and apples and cheese are always a top combination.
- 2 cups whole wheat flour (or barley flour)
- ½ cup uncooked oatmeal
- ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese (mild, regular or sharp)
- 1/3-1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 2 tablespoons olive, canola or coconut oil
Mix all ingredients together and add enough water to make the dough stick. This may be 3-4 tablespoons. Roll out the dough and cut into shapes, bake on a parchment lined baking sheet at 350 for 30 minutes. They should be very firm when they are done.
Allow to cool and store unrefrigerated or refrigerated in an airtight container. This can be doubled and the treats frozen.
P and P Treats
These dog cookies feature peanut butter and pumpkin in a great seasonal treat.
- 5 cups of whole wheat flour
- 5 tsp cinnamon
- 2 eggs
- ½ cup pumpkin puree (canned or homemade)
- 2-3 tbsp peanut butter
Mix everything together until it is combined. Add water to make a dough that can be rolled to about a half an inch thick. Cut into shapes or squares and bake at 350 for up to 40 minutes. They should be hard and snap when broken.
